August 13, 2016 is the annual Fishing Day in support of fatherhood in the Bootheel of Southeast Missouri. This event is sponsored by Missouri Bootheel Regional Consortium, Inc. a not-for-profit agency in Sikeston, MO that works with pregnant women and families with children up to the age of 2 throughout the Bootheel counties providing education and resources needed for the first years of a child's life. Another mission of the program is lowering the infant mortality rate (IMR), the number of deaths of children before the age of 1 year. The Missouri Bootheel has an IMR of 9.6 deaths per 1000 live births; and among African American families the IMR is 12 deaths per 1000 live births.
As with most not-for-profit agencies our budget has been cut and while this even will go on we, our ability to fund all aspects of the day won't go as in previous years. In the past, every child attending the event was given a fishing pole to keep. This year unless we can get support from outside sources, this will not be happening. We are fortunate to have local assistance with providing the lunch for the day, but could use help providing a breakfast (cereal bar). If there are any listeners of the Ace & TJ show who could help us, that would be so greatly appreciated. You can do so by calling (573) 471-9400 and asking for Angela.
Thank you for all of your help!
